Pinhole Images

Toned/Filter      Photo

I took this picture in front of the lower school. I used this filter and tone to bring out the contrast of the bush. I also really liked the blue and purple combo with the clear window outline. This is my favorite photo as I am a huge fan of the colors.

Hand Colored        Photo

I took this photo along the pathway outside the art room with the pillars. I colored each different section/item a different color to bring out clear distinction. I wanted to create a sense of grass along the ground even though the picture was taken on concrete. This is my least favorite photo as I believe it doesn't look as complex as my others.

Vignette       Photo

I took this photo in the courtyard. I really like how distinct the outline of the person is. I wanted to focus the picture around this clear outline so I made a vignette around the person. I like how the photo looks very vintage and gives a historic vibe due to the darkness of the image. This is not my favorite image, nor my least favorite image. But I do really like how this picture turned out.

Artist Statement for Pinholes

First of all, I really loved the pinhole camera project. I remember making the pinhole camera box and thinking to myself how bizarre this project was. No way would this black cardboard box be able to create an image, let alone an image of such high quality. After the construction of the box, we took the box to the darkroom where we put the film along the inside border of the pinhole camera. The process of taking the box outside for pictures was really fun and suspenseful as I never knew if the picture would turn out as a success or just a black piece of paper. Although I repeated the process of taking my box outside and trying to find the right exposure time around 15 times, I only came out with three images. But to me that is a success, as all of the images I took I was very pleased with. Finding new areas to take photos of was very fun and I loved being able to have the freedom to go where I wanted to take these photos.
